Loughborough Town Centre
Sun 14th Jun 2009
9.00am to 5.00pm
Loughborough’s fabulous annual streets arts fair has a distinctly French theme this year as Streets Alive becomes Rues Vivantes!
An all-day French Market will be catering to all your Gallic needs while a Craft Market, also running all day, will be spotlighting the work of local artists, ceramicists, glass workers, jewellers and textile artists. In addition, there will be a host of dance, singing, recycled art and woodcarving workshops for everyone to join in. Charnwood Arts`s Art Zone workshops will be just the thing for children aged 8-14 years.
The Markets open at 9.00am and at 12.00 noon the streets really come alive with a packed programme of dancing, music and comedy acts. The music will range from Ska and Jazz to African drumming and the fabulous Mighty Zulu Nation!
Dance and acrobatics are supplied by Chinese ribbon dancers as well as Irish and Indian dance groups. There will be singing from the `Devoted Gospel Choir as well as the winner and runner up of this year`s Charnwood’s Got Talent contest, Blue Horizon and Kieran Fowkes.
Among the 80 performers will be a roving balloon modeller and a puppeteer for the young ones, street theatre for all ages and a saucy French accordionist for the older ones.
Local artists will be performing alongside national and international talent in three performance areas running right up until 5.00pm. Don`t miss it!
Streets Alive! is jointly organised by Charnwood Borough Council and Charnwood Arts and is supported by the Loughborough Town Centre Partnership

Lightning-bolt is happy to say that the whole glastonbudget weekend was a blast. We all had a great time.
As i was in the Charny Arnie tent all weekend i didn’t get to see to many main acts, But i could hear alot of great ones.
All the pictures i took are online at http://www.flickr.com/photos/apcyberax/sets/72157618740064838/
If you was not able to attend this year you can relive some of the great acts from the pictures.
My highlight of the week had to be the Foot long hot dogs. OK i also loved the music
From our stage i have to say the most memorable this year was great imitation and rugged sound system. the largest people puller had to be Rugged Sound System. i recommend you all go to see them if you ever get a chance.
Lightning-bolt also streamed the second day over the Internet. Out in the field with only a 3G connection at best was hard to keep up but we got 90% of the event live over the next. As this was not planned in advance it was not advertised but the station would of been listed on shoutcast.com and winamp radio. if anyone heard this i would be interested to hear how it sounded.
The only low point was having me tent ripped on the second night. 2 people decided it would be funny to jump on my tent while i was sleeping in it. Thats hat to much drinking and ever excited people can do. Small cost though this is why i always get cheap tents. Security was better this year, Have to say a big A+ to onebigstar.com for the sound work this again was better then last year. The main stage i did not think was as good as last year and the staff camp site was to far of a walk away this year.
what can i say as by closing words but ring on GB ‘10

Glastonbudget is now in its fifth year and, as the name suggests, is a budget weekend music festival that’s not to be missed. A great small to medium sized festival that rivals any of the bigger festivals in true tribute style.
Glastonbudget began in 2005, with a gathering of 18 of the top tribute bands from aroundEurope. Since then it has grown and grown and is now the biggest and best tribute and new music festival in Europe. This year we are all hoping it will be even bigger still.
Glastonbudget includes over 100 new acts and a wide range of alternative entertainment. All in all it makes for a cracking weekend!
In true Glastonbury style the weather did not let us down last year and the rain macs and wellies were to be seen in abundance but with a range
of music marquees, food and beer as well as the main stage no one was daunted. If you want to see some
of the best of your favourite music at a fraction of the cost in a friendly, community atmosphere and sample the best of hundreds of auditioned New Bands then this is the festival for you!
This year’s festival has a special Oxjam tent and a host of dressing up clothes…

Welcome to the 4th Heart of Three Cities publication featuring arts and cultural
events in the borough of Charnwood at the heart of the East Midlands. The theme
for this year is ‘Charnwood – A Land of Legends’ – myths, personalities, history,
invention, sporting achievements – Charnwood has hosted and sired many
remarkable people and stories. In this year’s publication we hope to share just a
few of them. We so often underestimate the world changing influence this place
has had in so many fields and walks of life. We hope there are a few surprises and
that we have contributed something to the knowledge of where you live!
As always the publication is an eclectic mix of Charnwood Arts’ own projects and
events, partnership projects and promotions of venues and other organisations
in the borough. There are also a number of competitions for you to engage with,
exhibitions and a wide range of workshops for children and young people.

Now into its fifth year, Glastonbudget, as the name suggests, is a budget weekend music festival not to be missed in Leicestershire, that rivals any of the bigger festivals in true tribute style yes Tribute style meaning tribute bands. It all started in 2005, when we gathered 18 of the top tribute bands from around Europe and put together one hell of a weekend. Since then it has grown and grown and is now the biggest and best tribute and new music festival in Europe. This year we are hoping it will be even bigger still.
It now also includes over 100 new acts from not only the UK but around the world. And a wide range of alternative entertainment. All in all it makes for a cracking weekend!
In true Glastonbury style the weather did not let us down last year and the rain macs and wellies were to be seen in abundance but hey! this only added to a fantastic time that was had by all.
From the the burgers to the bands everything was tip top.
Many people commented on how well it was organised, how much of a friendly, community atmosphere was created and how near total strangers became part of the most friendly music loving festival that people had ever witnessed.
One of the biggest things for us is to make sure that we are rip-off free i.e. tickets, beer, food plus the availability of services i.e. queues to toilets, foodstalls.
So onwards to GB 09! And we hope to see you there on 22nd, 23rd & 24th May.
