Due to problems with France.lightning-bolt.net we have decided to take the server offline.

The impact of this is we have no backup mail server. We will be sourcing a new VPS to run the backup mail exchanges this week (aiming for the next 2 days).

This will not effect the email system unless the main server goes offline for more then 24 hours.

Our old vps was hosted with vpsdeploy.com and last month had just 65.365% uptime.

After a few emails from people that had all the addresses in the To field I thought it was time to write a little but of advice to anyone that mass sends emails to multiple people at the same time.

While you may not thing its a big deal to send all your contacts in the to feild you are very wrong, This gives everyone you have sent the email to the email addresses and names (if in the email) of each other.

Now what can people do with the information if you send your emails like this. Very easy a simple ‘reply to all’ will allow them to email all the people you just emailed or just save the name and email addresses for later use.

Now for what you should do.

All email clients can send emails to a BCC (blind carbon copy) list, This is a list that is invisible to everyone.
Simply send the email to yourself and add everyone else to the BCC list. They will then only see your name in the to list and not every one elses.

The leak of your email contact list (big or small) is still a data leak and can cost dearly. Please follow the friendly advice and avoid the headache. While you might not mind everyone knowing your email address others might care and object to you giving there address to people and if this happens you could face legal action in the worst case.

We have moved to a new Datacenter in Zlin. We decided to make the move away from 1and1 as they have been giving us some problems.

We have now moved to FDC. FDC has been out email server for awhile and seems to be very good provider. Fast support and helpful.

If you have any problems or spot anything not working please email us at support@lightning-bolt.net

Lightning-bolt are pleased to give alittle something back to show our support for net neutrality. We are now hosting a mirror of the Tor Project to allow more people to enjoy unfiltered internet all over the world.
Our mirror address is http://torproject.umbrellacorporation.org.uk/

What is Tor
(Taken from Torproject.org)

Tor was originally designed, implemented, and deployed as a third-generation onion routing project of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. It was originally developed with the U.S. Navy in mind, for the primary purpose of protecting government communications. Today, it is used every day for a wide variety of purposes by normal people, the military, journalists, law enforcement officers, activists, and many others.

After the great success of the IWFChecker (http://iwfchecker.lightning-bolt.net) the following changes have been made.

Live Images – you can now add a banner image to any site for forum with the current status of the site on IWF. It will change if the status changes.

Site List – This is a list of all sites that are being monitored. Its built from all the past checks. If a site has ever been checked its been monitored and rechecked every day since. Even if it was not listed.

History List – You can now check the history of all checks. This will show when site were checked as well as when they were added/removed from IWF.

The site is still anonymous. No public information of who checked the sites or that pages contain the blocked content.

Currently the next update i am aiming to add is the ability to register for a email alert if a site is added or removed. This will allow you to add email monitoring for your site and be alerted if its added or removed from IWF.

Since IWFChecker launch on the 03 Mar 2012 we have seen 475 different sites checked and have preformed 38,875 Checks.
We have had 2341 unique visitors in may and transferred just under 14gb for may. Including the live image hits  in may we had 692,296 hits.

If you have any feedback please let us know at IWFChecker@lightning-bolt.net and please like us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/IWFChecker/295516050544823
