We currently have IRC (Internet Relay Chat) Server that can support 1000′s of users and 1000′s of channels. IRC was well known in the 90′s as the main chat on the internet. Since the 90′s IRC has remained very active and is still used today by many groups as ways of keeping in touch with people.
IRC activity started to slow down when programs like MSN and yahoo messenger became well known and now with sites like facebook, people are using chat rooms alot less. However there are many advantages to IRC chat rooms over programs like MSN and we’ll list a few now…….
- IRC can have public or private rooms (Chat rooms known as channels can be locked with a password or be set to invite only)
- IRC Channel operators can kick or ban people from their room and change settings for their rooms.
- IRC supports private 1 to 1 chats with people on the server. This means you can talk to people directly without leaving the chat.
-IRC can also support File Transfers so you can send files to other users.
You can also use a lot of other useful things in IRC but there is just to many to list.
